Arts Minister George Brandis’ new National Program for Excellence in the Arts (NPEA), to be funded by cuts to the Australia Council, was the focus of a Senate Estimates hearing in Canberra yesterday. During the hearing, Senator Brandis confirmed that the guidelines for his new program would be available by early July, with applications open immediately.
However an arts ministry staffer called before the hearing struggled to detail how the NPEA would run, and admitted the department had not yet determined how the grants applications process will work.
